Chace Crawford Is The Second Lead To Back Out Of ‘Footloose’

Who thought it would be so hard to get a young star to headline a Footloose remake? Maybe everyone who saw Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights.

For those of you who were excited to see Chace Crawford bring dancing back to a small town in the Footloose remake you’re out of luck because the Gossip Girl star has backed out. Paramount says it’s because of the Gossip Girl shooting schedule, but have you watched GG lately? Crawford, who was on location for the show on March 8, should be looking for new work. And I hope he finds it, it would be a shame to no longer see that face anywhere. Zac Efron previously dropped out to avoid being typecast.

Crawford singed on a year ago and since then director Kenny Ortega dropped out (due to exhaustion form This Is It – thought only actors and singers came down with exhaustion?). Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow) penned a rewrite but is too busy to direct. Usually these kind of signs point to a problem project that actors don’t want to be a part of. Julianne Hough is still lined up as the love interest and I think the girl has amazing potential, so I’m not dooming the movie just yet. Yes, it’s a remake, but if they find the right person and stay light on the cheese it could be good. Nothing that holds onto 80s cheese is good.

Word is Paramount is looking to cast an unknown and might launch a nationwide search. Good idea. You can both turn that into a reality show and the winner will be hungry enough not to bail if it really is that bad.
